The Nintendo 64DD is an expansion system for the Nintendo 64. It was named the "Dynamic Drive" at the start of its development, and plugs into the N64 through the EXTension Port of the Nintendo 64's bottom side. It was a commercial failure, and was never released outside of Japan.

Originally slated to appear on Nintendo's ill-fated Nintendo 64 disk drive add-on, the 64DD, this aside to the main Legend of Zelda storyline eventually made the jump to the N64's standard cartridge format. The idea was to present a new adventure for Link that kept the same basic gameplay and engine elements as the last Zelda game, Ocarina of Time.

Mother 3, also known as EarthBound 64, was in development for several years on the Nintendo 64 Disk Drive (64DD). This N64 add-on was, unfortunately, a failure, and never made it out of Japan. No one ever heard much about it after that, or expected to.

The 64DD was an addon that went underneath the Nintendo 64. It was only released in Japan and 7 games were made for it... Being one of Nintendo's most hyped console add-ons, it's sad to say the Virtual Boy did better...
