Trotz der strengen Hand vertrauen ihm seine Schützlinge. 'Was mich bei den Dreharbeiten faszinierte, war die Selbstdisziplin und die Motivation der Jungen.Sie legten mehr Zielstrebigkeit und Reife an den Tag als viele Erwachsene in westlichen Gesellschaften', erklärt Mark Verkerk. Eine Faszination, die auch die Kritiker teilten: 'Buddhas verlorene Kinder' wurde bei mehreren Filmfestivals ausgezeichnet, darunter das AFI Festival in Los Angeles und das DOK Festival Leipzig.
