I have a love and hate relationship with Kevin Smith's movies- I loved Clerks, which was fresh and new. But like Tim Burton's films, everything he's made since has the fingerprints visible in the clay- I can see his quirks too easily. He's really not good at writing female characters or getting a great performance out of a woman, for example.
