I recently decided to remove Ubuntu from my laptop. (Don't worry, I reinstalled it.) Deleting the partition of course messed up the GRUB boot loader, so I needed to restore the master boot record. Lacking a vanilla Windows XP install CD, I dug up the restore CD for my Alienware and put it in my laptop. What happened next was truly horrifying...
