A presentation of the administrative divisions of the Philippines. Data used valid as of Sept. 2008. Notes: 09.06.08 -On May 23, 2005, Executive Order No. 429 directed that the province of Palawan be transferred from Region IV-B MIMAROPA to Region VI Western Visayas. Consequently, Administrative Order No. 129 was issued on August 19, 2005 that the implementation of EO 429 be held in abeyance pending approval by the President of its implementation plan. As of July 2008, the abeyance is still in effect and Palawan remains a part of MIMAROPA. -On October 28, 2006, the province of Shariff Kabunsuan was created by the ARMM making it the 80th province of the Philippines. (Dinagat Islands is the 81st province) On July 17, 2008, the Supreme Court, in Sema v. Comelec declared the creation of the province of Shariff Kabunsuan void and ruled that the power of ARMM's legislature to create provinces and cities is unconstitutional. The landmark ruling resulted in the Philippines' reverting back to 80 provinces. The ruling also nullified the elections of the governor, vice governor and provincial board of Shariff Kabunsuan and the entire provincial bureaucracy is deemed scrapped as Shariff Kabunsuan reverts back as integral part of the province of Maguindanao. source- wikipedia.com
