Witchblade (ウィッチブレイド, Witchibureido?) is an anime series based on the famous American comic book by the same name. Instead of an adaptation of the original story, the producers decided to create an entire new setup, with all new characters. This co-production between Japanese studio Gonzo and American publisher Top Cow, who owns the rights for the Witchblade franchise, is already licensed to release in the United States. The English dub premiered on the US cable network IFC in January of 2008. The show is currently on Fridays at 11:30 PM ET, and the series finale aired on June 13, 2008 on IFC. The show is also available on a purchase-to-download system on Xbox Live Video Marketplace, the digital video distribution network utilized by Microsoft's Xbox 360 video game console. The series is priced at 160 Microsoft Points (equivalent to $1.99) per episode, and as of February 1, 2008, the first 8 episodes were available for download, with each new episode becoming available for download after it is aired.
