This was recorded shortly before the previous video, right before the sitters were arrested. When the mounted police made their move, I admit my fear got the best of me and I ran behind the hedge to the right. I shot the prior video from that location. The conversation I have where I'm talking to the guy about "what you guysdo" and talking to their founder are members of Mr. Peace Team, a group that tried to work as a neutral liason between rival factions in combative situations, trying to achieve consensus and avoid escalation. They are disliked by the police for refusing to give evidence or testify against protestors and distrusted by protestors who view them as being complicit with the cops. They're hated by everyone, which means they're probably doing something right. In any event, as I mention I spoke with their founder at the jail vigil I had attended the previous evening. He seemed an enormously principled individual, and realistic about the limititations of what their group could accomplish and the risks they were all taking by trying to defuse situations - namely, that they could fail and be in the middle of a disaster. At this point, though I may still seem kind of chipper in the video when I do my commentary, I'm emotionally exhausted. The tension of all that worry, anger, and frustration had eroded my resolve, had engendered in me an almost complete feeling of hopelessness. Feeling by that point for hours that I might be tear gassed or pepper sprayed at any moment, and be running in a panicked mob had produced the desired effect. That's the insidious part of even one over the top act of brutality. It provides constant tension from that point forward because now it can erupt at any point again. It's the new normal, and if it isn't, it can be made so with a signing statement from our glorious decider.I will probably tie this up with another vid tomorrow - I've got to put this down for the evening again, I think. I'm starting to go to the dark place again.Peace all
