Ashfurs Death

** MAJOR SCENE SPOILER** Jaypaw and Leafpool go to the Moonpool and he is named Jayfeather by Leafpool. Afterward, the cats are all back and life is almost normal. Then, during a storm, the camp sets fire and Jayfeather, Lionblaze, Squirrelflight, and Hollyleaf are trapped. Squirrelflight makes it through the flames and drags a stick through but needs help. Ashfur heroically leaps in and drags it all the way through. Just as Lionblaze leaps on, though, he blocks it. Squirrelflight begs him to let them through but he tells her that he held a grudge after she chose Brambleclaw and admits he was the one who helped Hawkfrost set the trap for Firestar, to show her the pain of losing a loved one as he had faced. He said that he would kill her kits to show her, instead. Squirrelflight bravely backs away from the trapped cats and says that he cannot hurt her because they are not her kits. She explains how she lied to Brambleclaw and kept it from the whole Clan, and Ashfur lets them live. He threatens to tell her secret, though, and she is shocked. Hollyleaf and Lionblaze refuse to speak to her even when she says that she couldn't have loved kits of her own more, but she cannot tell them who their mother is.The fire dies down and all the cats get the camp set up. Three days before the gathering, though, Ashfur asks Firestar if he can go and the four cats who he met in the fire are worried that he is doing it to publicly announce Squirrelflight's secret. The gathering comes and Squirrelflight is also going to the gathering. Right before, the patrol of warriors going notices that both Ashfur and Squirrelflight are missing. They leave without them but never see Squirrelflight or Ashfur. When they are half way through, they see Ashfur's body lying in the water as if he had drowned. They take him back to camp and set him for vigil. Leafpool notices a slit in his neck, telling he was murdered, and after the gathering Firestar announces that Ashfur's death was unknown, but Hollyleaf, Jayfeather, and Lionblaze (who are worried that the prophecy isn't about them) see Squirrelflight looking scared and holding her breath. They silently promise to keep it a secret forever.
