On April 15th, 2008, Malachi and Lincoln were born. They're our twin boys.The wife went to 37 weeks with them, and finally it was time for the C-section. I took the liberty of documenting the entire event, from the moment we first found out to the big day itself. I titled this momentous occasion "Begin to Change". Here I show the last part of the hour-long documentary in a vignette I've entitled "Separation Anxiety".Synopsis: We had waited 9 months for this. It was time to meet the boys finally. They had intimately spent all that time together, in the womb. Now, upon entering the world, they were going to be separated for the first time.Malachi Lawrens came out first, and Lincoln Alden came 60 seconds later. Lincoln, who gestationally had been a week behind his older brother, could not breathe when he came out. Upon birth, Malachi and Mama were formally introduced and taken to be together in the maternity suite, while Lincoln was immediately rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where doctors would spend the next 4 days helping him learn to breathe outside the womb.Reflection: My wife and I understand now that this sort of thing happens all the time, and many premature babies can spend much longer amounts of time in the NICU before they ever get to go home. Still, there are some that never make it out of the NICU. While no parent should have to endure the uncertainty regarding whether or not their child will be viable outside the womb, we recognize our situation may pale in comparison to others'. Nevertheless, this our story.Hope you enjoy it.

I found a great new surf shop in Lincoln City Oregon that not only carries great surf gear, but they also provide surf rentals that didn't ruin my day!
