Peter Allen sings "The More I See You" (featuring Herb Alpert on trumpet) from his album, "Taught by Experts" (A&M Records, 1976). This catchy remake of the old standard did not achieve the chart success it deserved. It wasn't for lack of trying. Peter's boss at A&M, Herb Alpert, contributed a trumpet solo, and pop star Lesley Gore was among the back-up singers. Perhaps the problem was that Mr. Allen always shined more as a live performer in clubs and concert halls than as a recording artist.*******************Peter Allen was a popular stage and TV performer in his native Australia in the 1960s when American singer Judy Garland and her husband encountered him, and hired him as Judy's opening act. He later married Judy's daughter, Liza Minnelli, in 1967 (they divorced in 1974).In America, Mr. Allen became popular in New York nightclubs, then had moderate success as a recording artist. His true strength was as a stage and TV performer. He gave very memorable perfomances at Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall, and starred in his own short-lived Broadway show, "Legs Diamond."He was also a talented songwriter. Several of his songs became big hits for other artists, such as "I Honestly Love You" (Olivia Newton-John), "Don't Cry Out Loud" (Melissa Manchester), and "I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love" (Rita Coolidge).Peter Allen passed away in 1992 from AIDS-related throat cancer. He was 48.A musical based on his life, "The Boy from Oz," premiered in Australia in 1998 and moved to Broadway in New York City in 2003. Heidi Schnitzer is simply Margaret Mary Ray on steroids. Ray, who stalked David Letterman for years, never threatened to physically harm the star of CBS' Late Night Show. Schnitzer, on the other hand, mailed a death threat to David Caruso claiming she was going to murder him, his daughter Greta and Liza Marquez. Schnitzer remains on the lam.
