NASA responds to DIRECT proposal
NASA has issued a study evaluating an alternative to their Ares rockets for sending men back to the Moon. Called DIRECT, the plan proposes using rockets more closely related to the Space Shuttle. Proponents say their plan will get the US back to the Moon safer, cheaper, and sooner than Ares. NASA had previously denied the existence of the study.

Specifically, the bill would prevent the Administrator from retiring the Shuttle in 2010 if additional missions are remaining on the manifest.

NASA has found out that the Space Shuttle can cause Noctilucent clouds, sometimes called polar mesospheric clouds when observed from space. These clouds are rarely found outside of the polar regions, but climate change (and rocket launches) have caused them to become more frequent in lower latitudes.
