Valverde arranca su sueño de amarillo:Alejandro Valverde tomó el relevo del maillot amarillo que el Tour de Francia no dejó defender a Alberto Contador. El murciano, que se proclamó campeón de España la pasada semana, se adjudicó al sprint la primera etapa de 'La Grande Boucle' en un exhibición de fuerza y energía.A diferencia de otros años, el Tour no empezó con el habitual prólogo al que estábamos acostumbrados. Para romper con la rutina la prueba arrancó con una etapa en línea, por primera vez desde 1967, y no precisamente llana. La meta se encontraba en un repecho de 1,7 kilómetros al 6,2% de desnivel medio, que prácticamente dejaba sin opciones de victoria a los sprinters y abría más que nunca el abanico de candidatos a enfundarse el primer maillot amarillo de la edición de 2008.Valverde demostró quién es el favoritoSin embargo, de entre los favoritos al triunfo sobresalía un nombre por encima de todos: el de Alejandro Valverde. Al jefe de filas del Caisse d'Epargne le venía como anillo al dedo el repecho final de la primera etapa y así lo demostró. A falta de 400 metros y en una curva muy cerrada, Valverde cambió el ritmo de manera espectacular para acabar con el ataque del luxemburgués Kirchem y certificar la segunda victoria de su carrera en el Tour con unos metros de ventaja. Un golpe de autoridad tremendo para el resto de favoritos aunque, como él mismo reconoció posteriormente, el maillot le llega quizá demasiado pronto. Ahora su equipo se verá obligado a defender el amarillo desde el primer momento, una tarea que no entraba en los planes de Eusebio Unzue.Escapada con sabor españolAdemás de Valverde, la primera etapa del Tour también tuvo otros tres protagonistas españoles. David de la Fuente (Saunier), Rubén Pérez (Euskaltel) y el veterano Jose Luis Arrieta (Ag2r) lograron colarse en la escapada del día formada por otros cinco corredores. En la Cota de Ty-Jopic (km. 29) su ventaja llegó a marcar más de 8 minutos pero con el paso de los kilómetros fue decreciendo hasta que De La Fuente, premio a la combatividad en el Tour de 2006, y el francés Jégou decidieron probar fortuna por su cuenta y pasaron a ser cabeza de carrera. Sin embargo, ambos terminaron por claudicar después de 180 kilómetros de fuga y cuando se encontraban a 7 kilómetros de meta.Caídas de Soler y Xavi Florencio La etapa también estuvo repleta de nervios y caídas. Algunos corredores se fueron al suelo como el colombiano Mauricio Soler (Barloworld), que perdió más de tres minutos, o el español Xavier Florencio (Bouygues). Otros corrieron peor suerte y se tuvieron que retirar como el francés Hervé Duclos Lasalle (Cofidis), que se convirtió en el primer abandono del Tour tras sufrir una caída en el avituallamiento que le produjo la rotura de su muñeca izquierda. Este domingo se disputará la segunda etapa, entre Auray y Saint Brieuc, de 164,5 kilómetros, con perfil ondulado y cuatro puertos de cuarta y una de tercera y con un repecho al final.
