Well, a man accused of running the escort service in that case will plead guilty. [Notes:exteriors of courthouse]Mark Brener is expected in a Manhattan federal courtroom on Thursday. The 62-year-old has negotiated a plea deal with the U.S. Attorney. [Notes:various of Suwal] Brener's lawyer says the agreement is a lot like the one that Cecil Suwal reached. She's the woman who ran the day-to-day operations of the escort service. Suwal pleaded guilty to a pair of federal conspiracy charges. Her deal calls for 21 to 27 months in prison.Brener is the third of four defendants to plead guilty in the case. A lawyer for the fourth defendant says his client is in plea talks with the federal government.. (June 3)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] Another guilty plea in the prostitution scandal that led to the downfall of former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer.The woman accused of running the day to day operations of the Emperor Club appeared at this courthouse on Tuesday...and pleaded guilty to conspiring to launder money and conspiring to violate prostitution laws.((Albert Ebanks/Lawyer: She wanted to put this behind her. This was the most significant and devastating time of her life.)) Prosecutors say Cecil Suwal (SEE'-suhl SOO'-wahl ) supervised the escort service's booking agents and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to the company's call girls.They also claim she was the one who controlled the front companies that were used to hide the prostitution ring's profits.Emperor charged clients up to 55-hundred dollars an hour to be with one of their escorts.Suwal is the second person to plead guilty in this case. A booking agent, facing similar charges, appeared in court last month.The alleged founder of the club has pleaded *not guilty*, and is awaiting trial.As for New York's disgraced ex-governor...he hasn't been charged, but he apologized and stepped down after the story broke back in March.Spitzer's involvement was discovered during an investigation into suspicious cash transfers. Federal agents eventually tapped his phone calls and analyzed his bank records.No word yet on whether prosecutors plan to charge him with breaking any laws.
