Chicago Alderman, Bob Fioretti of the 2nd ward (312-263-9273), told a WGN reporter that Blacks being shot down on Chicago's streets, wouldn't hurt the city's international standing, or its chances of hosting the Olympics. Okay... hold up! Is it me, or is that a really fucked up thing to say, after someone was shot and killed in your ward? Where was Ald. Fioretti's compassion for Courtney Thomas' family? For those of you who don't know... Courtney Thomas was the young man who was shot in the head, while attending a fireworks display, in downtown Chicago. It seems the Chicago police officers weren't able to control the crowd and keep everyone safe. Which leads me to my next point. How is Chicago going to keep Olympic athletes safe, when it can't protect its own citizens at a fireworks display? Recently, there has been one shooting after another in Chicago. School children are being gunned down left and right! And what is the Mayor of Chicago doing about it? He's planning a party - Olympic style! A few weeks ago, Mayor Daley was asked about the number of shootings in Chicago, and responded by laughing and saying, "Why isn't anyone questioning China?" (China also hopes to host the 2016 Olympics) I hope like hell the International Olympic Committee is paying attention to the ineptitude and callousness of the Chicago police department! If not, and Chicago is selected to host the Olympics; the IOC may have an international scandal on their hands, when one of their athletes is shot down on Chicago's streets! However, on the other hand, if that athlete happens to be black, I doubt anyone would give a damn! I know Alderman Fioretti wouldn't!
