Decided to dust off my little Frakensteam engine today and put it to real work.We have the Jensen 85 unit driving a Mamod workshop, and the Jensen 65 powering a generator and, through it, a radio tuned to the oldies station.This is a bit of a compromise. The unregulated Jensen 85 runs full blast at all times. I found that, when driving the workshop from the small PTO, that the engine revs so fast I cannot maintain pressure enough to drive the generator sufficiently to power the radio. I quickly swapped flywheels without shutting down (gaunlets make one feel untouchable) to one with a PTO groove around the flywheel. This allowed the workshop to slow the engine down and conserve steam.However it was now difficult to keep the 85 going, until I found out that the radio worked BETTER when the Jensen 65 was throttled BACK, as you will see later in the video (after the 85 stalled and was restarted).Curious, no?The next time I mod an 85 series, I am determined to have a throttle on the beast.Anyway.
