For those that are not confident about fixing their laptop (like I was), I give you this. After normal use for two years, the hinges actually snapped. I noticed a lot of play in the monitor, and on the first dis-assembly, I noticed the monitor was only being held up by the plastic frame that surrounds it. So I ordered some new hinges from HP and the rest is on the video.Thanks to Alfred DiBlasi for the humor inspiration.

Scary...now you are telling me that I will have to pay to get a clean PC from major manufacturers? My latest new PC is an HP DV8000 notebook, I literally was uninstalling software for the first hour of it's life. Dozens of applications had to be removed before I even began putting my applications on it.

HP released a BIOS update this month for their older Pavilion laptops (dv5000, dv8000, perhaps others). Release notes claim the update "Fixes issue where the keyboard may not function correctly when using key combinations that include the Shift, Ctrl, or Alt keys." I installed it and the fix worked.
