The Liberation of Hong Kong, 1945

Story:After 18 days of fighting, on Christmas day 1941, Governor Sir Mark Young surrendered the territory to the Japanese. The people of Hong Kong lived in misery during the Japanese Occupation which lasted for three years and eight months. In August 1945, atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, forcing the Japanese to surrender on 15 August. Rear-Admiral Harcourt re-occupied Hong Kong on 30 August 1945 with his fleet and established a British Military Administration.Music:Elegiac PoemSir Granville Bantock, composerAndrew Fuller, celloMichael Dussek, piano

Washington Whispers Report: Paul Tibbets Flight Suit On Sale
I thought this was so interesting! The flight suit Paul Tibbets wore when he flew the Enola Gay over Hiroshima to drop the first atomic bomb is being sold at auction. How does one even acquire such a thing to sell??? The article takes the angle of historical relics as good INVESTMENTS, which is interesting, but I think the sale itself is cool.

Clarifying the Facts— a letter to the NYT from Bill Ayers
My memoir is from start to finish a condemnation of terrorism, of the indiscriminate murder of human beings, whether driven by fanaticism or official policy. It begins literally in the shadow of Hiroshima and comes of age in the killing fields of Southeast Asia. My book criticizes the American obsession with a clean and distanced violence, and the

I wonder what went wrong in the evolution of man(kind)? Since nature has allowed us to evolve to how we are today, why did it decide to just let us use about 10% of our brain capacity?I mean, we have managed to visit the moon, drop a nuclearbomb over Hiroshima, and sunk an unsunkable ship in the Atlantic ocean.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki: A Failure of Empathy
In any conversation about autism, the word empathy comes up repeatedly. The process of learning about autism, and how to survive in the world, has led to an examination of empathy - what it is, what it isn't, and examples of it in practice. My examinations also bring me smack up against humanity's mass failures of empathy.
