Due to a disease that effects only 1 in 8 million people, Haley could die from "old age" at the age of 13. She is currently undergoing treatment in Boston that could save her life and stop some of the effects of her rapid aging condition known as Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria syndrome.

Researchers have discovered that children suffering from Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS) have an excessively stiff shell of proteins. "Once we understand what causes the lamina to stiffen, we can try to reverse or stop the problem." A similar stiffening occurs with aging providing an additional area of future research.
