Obama Calls for BETTER APPROACHES To Security and Iraq War

Speaking in Indiana on July 16, 2008, Senator Barack Obama addressed the need for American leaders to find "better and more effective approaches to providing national security -- especially if we really want to prevent future terrorism." With this goal in mind, Senator Obama emphasized that the decision to attack Iraq instead of focusing on Afghanistan was a serious strategic mistake -- not really addressing the spread of terrorism, costing the US over 1 trillion dollars -- not focusing on our real national interests -- a reactive, not proactive approach to strategic planning. Obama reaffirmed that while he will listen to those "on the ground in Iraq" he still strongly believes that it is "long past time to begin to withdraw our troops from Iraq" and develop a strategy that really focuses on terrorism and the major terrorists -- most of whom are not in Iraq. Again -- Obama is making the differences between homself and Senator McCain "very clear" on both the issue of Iraq and the need for a "different approach" to national security.

Is Your Elected Rep In Bed With Rev. Hagee?
Sign the petition to Senator Joe Lieberman, DEMOCRATIC Congressman Eliot Engel of NY and Rep. Mark Pence of Indiana who are speaking at Pastor Hagee's CUFI conference on July 22. Should elected U.S. political figures condone a group that believes all Jews will be annihilated? How about their call for pre-emptive military strikes against Iran?

2008’s Presidential Battleground States
North Carolina, Virginia, Indiana? The Republicans in these traditionally red states are looking blue about John McCain and it might affect the color of the state in November. If the election were held today, Barack Obama would steal 73 electoral votes from states that went Republican last year, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado, Iowa, & more.

Appreciation: Tim Russert, 1950-2008
On May 6, the night of the Indiana and North Carolina primaries, Russert declared on MSNBC, "We now know who the Democratic nominee's going to be." The pronouncement was an example of Russert's absolute authority in the Washington media; it was also an example of some critics' concern that media figures were calling the election before voters had.

Indiana Univ may have to eat costs from Clinton visit
Clinton's biggest Indiana debt is owed to Indiana University where the Democratic candidate for president spoke at Assembly Hall on April 25. According to a filing with the Federal Election Commission made this week, her campaign owes I.U. over $19,000. But the university said that's just part of the bill. Altogether, the...total is more than $55K

Clinton crushes Obama in West Virginia vote
Hillary Clinton coasted to a major victory in West Virginia, handing Barack Obama one of the worst defeats of the campaign. Interviews with West Virginians suggested Clinton's win is as overwhelming as any to date. Her strength with blue-collar voters -- already demonstrated Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana -- makes her the more electable candidate.
