A photo taken during the early stages of the Belmont Stakes has revealed Big Brown was running with a loose shoe as the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner attempted to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1979, Newsday reported Monday.

The Belmont Stakes proved to be an incredible bust for Big Brown, who won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness only to fall short in the third leg of the Triple Crown. What was very odd about the whole deal was how the horse wasn't able to kick into his "extra gear" around the third turn of the Belmont.

That's the question thats been posed at the water cooler all week leading up to Saturday's Belmont Stakes. At least at our water cooler thats been the case and I have to believe many casual and veteran horse racing fans are thinking the same thing. Big Brown has been so impressive in his victories at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness.
