Algeria; Condoleezza Rice urges unity in North Africa's fight on terror

Rice urges unity in North Africa's fight on terror The Associated Press Sunday, September 7, 2008 RABAT, Morocco: U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urged North African countries to build a more unified approach in fighting terrorism and to maintain efforts for political reform as she wrapped up a three-day visit to the region Sunday.Rice said she discussed "the process of reform" during all of her meetings with regional leaders. Her talks also helped "look at ways in which we might help the countries of this important region to have a more unified approach to the challenges that face them," Rice said at a joint news conference with her Moroccan counterpart.Moroccan Foreign Minister Taieb Fassi-Fihri said the meetings also addressed "relations with our brother country Algeria," and what can be done "against common threats and international terrorism."A main point of contention between the two North African countries is the question of Western Sahara, a mineral-rich region Morocco annexed in 1975. Rice said the U.S. backed a new round of United Nations talks to solve the protracted problem through a plan for autonomy. But the pro-independence Polisario Front, supported by Algeria, wants a referendum to rule on the Western Sahara's right to self-determination."We believe it is extremely important" for Algeria and Morocco to resolve the question, Rice said, because it is hampering their cooperation on other issues such as security and counterterrorism.A tourism haven and a relatively liberal Muslim kingdom, Morocco is the North African nation with the closest business and diplomatic ties to the U.S., from which it recently bought a large shipment of F-16 fighter jets. The country is accused by several former U.S. detainees of having tortured suspected terrorists on behalf of the CIA.Rights groups have often criticized other North African countries for police brutality or undue judicial process, while casting doubts about widespread electoral fraud.Rice's trip — with earlier stops in Libya, Tunisia and Algeria — is her first as secretary of state to this region of increasing strategic importance. However, the threat posed by militants in North Africa has become "even more salient in the recent months," she said Saturday in Algeria, where Islamic militants have intensified their campaign of violence. Her meeting Friday with Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi marked the end of three decades of confrontation and followed an August agreement that settled all terrorism-related lawsuits between the countries.Rice said the improvement in relations with Libya meant the United States no longer has "a hole" in its North Africa policy, which should help improve regional cooperation. In Tunisia and Algeria, Rice praised authorities for their help in fighting terrorism and called for even tighter coordination. She also sought to boost business ties in Algeria, a large oil- and gas-producing country.Rice said she planned to follow up on these issues during talks later this month with the foreign ministers of the Arab Maghreb Union, which groups North African states. The talks will take place in New York, on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.America's top diplomat also said the U.S. was trying to empty its military prison at Guantanamo Bay "as soon as we possibly can," while keeping in mind that "we have an obligation not to have dangerous people on the streets."Many North Africans are among the detainees held there, and Rice said she raised the issue of their transfer during all her meetings with the region's heads of state.Human rights groups worry that detainees transferred from Guantanamo back to North Africa could face mistreatment. Rice said transfers to home countries would be conducted "in a way that is rigorous, that gets the protections that we need and that the detainees need."The issue is especially sensitive in Algeria, which is battling a resurgent Islamist militancy. Most of the violence is claimed by an al-Qaida offshoot that calls itself Al-Qaida in Islamic North Africa.Moroccan authorities also say they dismantled at least half a dozen terrorist cells this year and are holding some 1,000 suspected Islamists behind bars. Many of them trained in Algeria, and several were plotting terror attacks in Europe or against tourists in Morocco, Moroccan authorities say.___Associated Press Writer Alfred de Montesquiou in Algiers, Algeria, contributed to this report.

Restore The West - Christian Faith

It is only fitting that I begin by addressing what has been the most vicious and devastating attack on Western Civilization over the past century: that is the concentrated efforts to de-Christianize our people through media manipulation and the promotion of overt anti-Christian bigotry. Left-wing organizations have learned how to use our legislative and judicial systems against us. They've secretly worked hard for decades to get sympathetic judges on the benches and are now engaged in a systematic effort to remove any vestiges of Christianity from the public square. Their efforts have resulted in the forced removal of countless Christian monuments from parks, memorials, and other publicly-owned properties, the suppression of religious speech in our schools and government institutions, and even outright hostility to Christianity in our public education systems. These Marxist organizations have also devised clever means to use our government and tax dollars against us to diminish the influence of Christianity while at the same time bolstering that of Islam and other foreign religions. Legislation has been passed in many Western nations restricting religious liberty and speech specifically to protect "minority religions" from any criticism. We've seen men arrested in Australia for daring to criticize Islam. So-called "Religious Tolerance" legislation is being used to protect and foster the growth of Islam in Western nations. A new brand of militant Atheism is also on the rise which seeks to deconvert Christians and promote leftist values and ideology among our people. While these atheists and Muslims seemingly have little in common, they both share the same goal of remaking Western Civilization in their own image, and will use one another when the opportunity arises in order to help diminish the influence of Christianity in our societies. Both of these groups desire ultimately to destroy Christianity in the West, but fear not, my friends. For Christianity is an anvil that has worn out many a hammer because it is no Fairy-Tale religion, but is grounded in objective Historical reality. However, we should all be concerned by these efforts to attack our Faith and culture.Make no mistake, there is a direct correlation between the decline of Christian Faith in our nations and the development of the many and diverse problems before us today. Crime, drug use, promiscuity and neglect of family life... how could anyone see these as positive contributions to our societies? Yet, as Christian faith diminishes, these sorry vices become more and more prevalent. In those days when sons and daughters were taught right from wrong, the desire of a young woman was to stay pure and chaste, to marry at a young age, and join her husband in raising a healthy and happy family, and the desire of a young man was to be a father and to teach his sons those same virtues that he was taught in his youth. When such goals were prevalent among our nations' people, there was simply no need to be concerned about demographic trends. The future was secure because our people were following the will of a loving Creator who said, be fruitful and multiply.Unfortunately, virtue is being replaced in our modern culture with total and complete degeneracy. Instead of being taught Christian virtue, Children in the West are bombarded with every sort of immorality in music, television, movies, even in their schools. It's criminal that so many children are now instilled with such a degenerate view of sexuality from the music they listen to, the movies they see, and the outright pornography they're exposed to on a daily basis. This filth has become so overwhelmingly prevalent on the internet and often children are the primary targets of these pornographers because they believe that if they get them addicted early enough, they will have a customer for life for their sick and depraved trade. With such childhood influences, is it any wonder that our people are marrying less, divorcing more, and having fewer children of their own? There is no surer way to destroy a people than to distort their understanding of sexuality. Instead of a gift for use within the bond of marriage to unite a husband and wife, and make possible the creation of a family, if sexuality is seen as purely a selfish endeavor, it isn't long before marriage is no longer even desired and pregnancy is looked at as little better than contracting a sexually transmitted disease. It is estimated that in the previous century, Europeans and those of European descent around the world comprised nearly 30% of the Global population. Today, we make up roughly half of that. Some estimates indicate that by the end of this century we will comprise less than 2% of the Global population. We are on a fast track to extinction and we have only ourselves to blame. Did anyone really believe that such actions would be without consequence? ...
