Railfanning Green Bay March 29, 2008 Part 1

On the afternoon of Saturday, March 29, Mark "Fuzzy" Hintz of http://www.fuzzyworld3.com and I railfanned the Canadian National Fox River Subdivision.Not much was going on in the yard when we got there so we headed up to the nearby WPS Pulliam Power Plant and as luck would have it, their plant switcher was on duty knocking the coal cars around. It's an ALCo S2 rebuilt with a new prime mover.While that was going on, we heard CN A411 (Chicago-SSM via Green Bay) on the scanner announcing his approach to De Pere. We hung around watching the switcher for a few more minutes and then headed south along Broadway Street, paralleling the main until we saw gates going down. Then we raced it back up Broadway and shot it crossing the road and entering the yard. ES44DCs CN 2249 and 2261 power the train.Two local jobs were now lined up to get out of the yard in short order after A411 cleared. First came L585 behind Illinois Central GP40R 3123, unfortunately my camcorder battery gave out just as the train got going.With a fresh battery in place, barely 10 minutes later along came SD40-3 CN 5942 with L515, another mainline local. 5942 is one of the Alstom units that bears GTW reporting marks but never actually wore blue and red paint or belonged to the Grand Trunk Western when it was an independent railroad, as opposed to a U.S. operating division of Canadian National.We decided to try and chase L515 to De Pere, where they can sound the horn. The train picked up speed quickly and with us hitting a lot of red lights, we barely made it to Cedar Street in time. As you can tell I didn't even have time to level my tripod properly.Stay tuned for Part 2.
