The nest has several brood cells. They are made from mud - a mixture of earth and regurgitated water.When a cell is completed, the adult wasp typically collects beetle larvae, spiders or caterpillars and, paralyzing them, places them in the cell to serve as food for a single wasp larva. This behavior is called mass provisioning.Usually the adult wasp lays a single egg in the empty cell before provisioning it. When the wasp larva hatches, it starts to feed upon the supplied prey before pupating. The complete life cycle may last from a few weeks until the adult emerges. Adult potter wasps feed on floral nectar.The wasp has several symbolic meanings. In ancient Europe, the wasp was a symbol of fertility honoring the wasp for its role in continuation of certain flowering plants.Some American Indian tribal myths portrayed the wasp as the creator of the earth. It was a symbol of order, organization as well as productivity.In some African traditions, the wasp was a symbol of evolution and control over our life circumstances.The prime season of the wasp is spring, and so it is symbolic of new beginnings, and starting new projects.
