The Commonwealth Fund found that the gap between the sexes on some risky behaviors is disappearing, with adolescent girls now smoking, drinking and using drugs at almost the same rate as boys their age. Eating disorders remain far more prevalent among girls. One in four girls exhibited symptoms of depression, a rate 50 percent higher than for the boys. Among high school girls, 1 in 3 had thought about suicide in the past two weeks. Black girls appeared to be an exception, reporting fewer symptoms of depression or low self-confidence than white, Asian-American or Hispanic girls.Sexual violence is especially pervasive in the lives of girls of color. An unfortunate, historical narrative oversexualizes black and brown girls. Even today this narrative renders their bodies more vulnerable to sexual exploitation and devaluation. Approximately 40 percent of black women report coercive sexual contact by the time they turn 18. One night I was reading some TTGL fan fiction with my music library on shuffle, when the MGS2 theme came on. As the song continued to play, it started to sync up remarkably well with the story, and thus the seeds of an AMV were planted!I wanted to make a mock trailer for Gurren Lagann using the Metal Gear Solid theme song, but found myself having a lot of problems deciding what I was going to do. I've approached my last few AMVs with the mentality of making them all as serious business as possible. However for this one, I decided I'd forgo trying to develop any story structure or anything complicated like that, and instead adopt the "explosions fix everything" mentality. I'm very satisfied with how it turned out, and had a lot of fun doing it.This was also the first time I've played with encoding using x264 instead of XVID. After hours of playing around, and some really crappy renders, I think I've finally got the hang of it.

Game advertising is a wacky business. We can picture tireless, cocaine-fueled pitch meetings where PR people strive to find a way to advertise a particular title. It seems as though every commercial boils down to either: gameplay, pre-rendered footage posing as gameplay, a bat-shit insane live action concept, or a amalgam of all those concepts.

This image is one of my 2008 science fiction image creations. It is a blended composite of six Bryce renders. Each render featured different skies and lighting effects. I also rendered up a black and white alpha channel in order to facilitate the blending of these renders as layers in Photoshop, where I brought them all together.
