Brainiac is another option for the main villain and I really dig this Matrix version of him as shown in the comic picture. Hugo Weaving could do what Liam Neeson did for Batman Begins by sort of acting as Supes mentor, but eventually Ka-El learns of the truth that Brainiac plans to destroy Earth and collect it's data. If anything having: Brainiac, Darkseid, and Lex Luthor all in the same movie would insure a huge box office.

Dan Turpin is basically Supes Harvey Bullock (Batman character), but only if Bullock was in hire rank. He's basically another tough as nails character that thinks Metropolis doesn't need Superman as her protector and eventually is killed off by Darkseid after he cusses him out.
