I'm Back - With a Vengeance.

"I'm back - with a vengeance!"Exclaimed Ian upon his welcoming back from his travels."We've missed you, Ian"Bruce wiped a tear from his eye.The atmosphere in the room was sedate, albeit joyous. However, Ian suspected an undercurrent throwing about in a vicious torrent beneath all the lies and deceit that had overcome this unsuspecting society. Something very dark had occurred. Ian could sense this. After all, the room smelt like death, and the whole nature of the moment was almost too perfect, too calculated to be so charming.Ian took a seat, reserving caution for what may occur. Sam brought him a glass of water."You must be weary from your travels, Ian. Here, have some water." Sam executed this gesture with a morbid sense of punctuality. It was as if everything was running perfectly to a flawless timeline of actions and manoeuvres, which would ultimately lead to Ian's demise. Ian decided to smell the water, in fear that his end may be closer than first anticipated - Diphtheria! Just as he'd suspected... He decided to discard the water, resting it on the coffee table in front of him. If he was going to die today, he might as well hold off for a while. He sat there uncomfortably, while his so called 'friends' interrogated him with an unquestionable desire for information. Ian knew. Ian wasn't going to give in so easily. This relaxed him slightly, though he kept his guard."Have you seen the new TV?"Sam's well-timed change of subject did not go unnoticed by Ian. He went along with it anyway. "No, not yet. How is it?""Excellent picture. Fantastic sound quality too."Ian could see that Sam was running out of superlatives to describe his television with a faux-enthousiasme. Ian knew all about Sam's television, and what was concealed inside it.With that, Ian sat back into the silence that the room had suddenly acquired. As he looked around, he noticed no clocks except the watches being worn by his company. The silence was deadly, but in the midst of the silence, Ian could vaguely make out a ticking sound coming from someone's watch. Though it distinctly sounded like only one was ticking, Ian soon realized that the ticking was a collective, simultaneous tick coming from all the watches. They had synchronized their watches! Bastards!More next week.
