Aber wenn ein Mann, ein Freier, sie anspricht, dann wird sie lächeln." Das war der letzte Satz der Reportage von damals. Was mag aus den Kindern geworden sein? Nun, nach fünf Jahren, kommen wir zurück. Wir wollen ihre Geschichte in einem neuen Film weiterschreiben. Doch wie findet man Straßenkinder wieder, nach so langer Zeit, im Chaos einer asiatischen Großstadt? Wir klappern alle Plätze und Orte ab, an denen sich die Kinder damals aufgehalten haben. Wir ziehen durch die Slums und die Parks, in denen sie zeitweise wohnten. Das Armenviertel, in dem Len-Len, die Zuhälterin, damals lebte, gibt es nicht mehr. Statt dessen klafft dort eine gewaltige Baugrube mit den Fundamenten für einen Hotelkomplex. Wir suchen nachts den Strich ab - überall hinterlassen wir Nachrichten und unsere Adresse. Nach einer Woche gibt es immer noch keinen Rückläufer. Unsere Hoffnung, die Kinder wiederzufinden, schwindet langsam. Dann, plötzlich, steht Evelyn in der Tür. Sie ist groß geworden, hübsch war sie schon damals. Aber alles Kindliche ist aus ihrem Gesicht verschwunden. Die Züge um ihren Mund sind viel zu hart für eine Sechzehnjährige. Evelyn holt eine Zigarette aus ihrer Tasche, zündet sie lässig an, pafft cool durch die Nase . und erzählt. Nach zwei Stunden und einer Schachtel Philipp Morris, die Evelyn hektisch raucht, wird klar: Evelyn selbst geht nicht mehr auf den Strich. Sie ist Zuhälterin geworden und "betreut" jetzt zwei fünfzehnjährige Mädchen. Mit dieser "Arbeit" ernähre sie ihre ganze Familie, erzählt sie, ihre Mutter und ihre fünf jüngeren Geschwister. Sie ist stolz darauf. Auch Rosmary finden wir wieder. Sie lebt in einer Kiste, in einem Park, im Zentrum Manilas. Die Kiste riecht wie eine Tube Klebstoff. Schon damals hing Rosmary "an der Tüte", sie zog sich Lösungsmittel ins Hirn. Die Drogen haben sie gezeichnet. Man sieht es Rosmary an - sieben Jahre ihres Lebens hat die Sechzehnjährige auf der Straße verbracht. Sie lebt in einer Gruppe von Straßenkindern, die sie ihre "Familie" nennt. Gelegentlich ein Job, ein Deal, oder ein Freier - so halten sie sich über Wasser. Alles, was sie verdienen, teilen sie miteinander. Rosemary geht immer noch auf den Strich. Im Gegensatz zu früher sind ihre Freier heute einheimische Männer. Für die Ausländer ist sie mittlerweile zu alt und zu ungepflegt. Seit zwei Tagen weiß sie, dass sie Syphilis hat. Der Doktor hat verlangt, dass sie aufhört, als Prostituierte zu arbeiten. Aber wovon soll sie dann leben? Der Doktor hat ihr auch eingeschärft, dass sie morgen wiederkommen muss, damit die Behandlung fortgesetzt werden kann. Doch zwischen heute und morgen liegt die Nacht. ...
