STATUTORY CITY OF OSTRAVA, City District Ostrava - Jih City District Ostrava - Jih was established at the cadastral area of originally separate municipalities of Výškovice, Hrabůvka, Zábřeh nad Odrou and Dubina, the last one penetrates to the cadastral area of Nová and Stará Bělá.At present is the City District of Ostrava - characterised as the most populated territory of Ostrava city and also as one large block of flats. The number of population of City District Ostrava - Jih varies between 118 000 and 120 000. But the history of this district was not only that of panel houses and grey. History is in our district represented also by cultural monuments among which belong the Church of the Rosary Virgin Mary and the statue of St. Florian in Ostrava - Hrabůvka. In Zábřeh there is the Church of the Visitation of Virgin Mary, with the gothic bell gifted to it at the break of 13 and 14 century, and this is probable the oldest bell in Moravia. Monument in memory of causalities of Second World War on high Břehy (embankments) in Zábřeh, monument of English pilots near the church in Hrabůvka, memorial tablet in Klegova Street in Hrabůvka, memorial tablet and residence house of Dr. Martínek in Hrabůvka. Among cultural and protected monuments belongs also Jubilejní kolonie, built by Vítkovice iron works in accordance with project by J. Friewald within 1921 to 1932. There are workers houses in Hrabůvka, situated in one-floor buildings with yards and inner streets. At present, after reconstruction, this part offers the most attracting accommodation of the district..Very popular become also housing in parts of Výškovice and Zábřeh very close to Bělský les. At the beginning of eighties was developed a conception of improvement of this forest to so-called forest-park being now of extraordinary aesthetic and recreation importance not only for citizens of our district. Besides benches for taking a rest there are also children fields, mini-golf, jogging and tourist routes.A culture for the City District of Ostrava - Jih is provided besides House of culture AKORD in Ostrava - Zábřeh also by oneo district cultural centres K-Tro in Hrabůvka, Luna cinema and of course the ČEZ Aréna in Zábřeh using for sport and other cultural activities. Transport connection within the city of Ostrava is provided by bus and tram transport and is still developing. At the territory of the district is located a railway communication junction of Vítkovice and the dense network of roads provides also the contact between the city district. In spite of it that the inhabitants of the district have to commute mostly for the work and culture and because of present fast style of life they have not time enough, they could mention that many places here become recoated. There was reconstructed a part of SNP square in Zábřeh, renewed house of Office of City District in Hrabůvka and significantly continue humanizing and aesthetizing of building and housing fund. Other facilities of civic amenities were developed in many places of the distric.
